Runucate is a nonprofit corporation that exists to raise awareness of poverty stricken communities in Nicaragua while helping create opportunities by providing accessible English classes.
Nicaragua is a developing country with much to offer such as culture, cuisine, adventure, scenery, and relaxation. Tourism is growing at a rate of approximately 3% annually according to the World Travel and Tourism Commission (2013). Job growth in the areas of transportation, accommodation, and entertainment are projected to lead the market. By educating local residents with English, jobs are not outsourced, thus providing Nicaraguans a higher success rate within their community by reducing crime and poverty. The poverty rate in rural communities is 63% (Rural Poverty Portal, 2014).
Runucate’s mission is to provide scholarships to residents lacking access to English education in Nicaragua. Runucate takes this awareness and funds English classes for members of communities that have limited educational and monetary resources. The ability to speak English provides an advantage to secure stable employment; therefore, benefiting both the individual and family for a healthy and productive lifestyle.
Courtney participates in various running events including marathons and half marathons to raise awareness by fundraising. Funds pledged per mile, per event, and general donations are applied towards a qualified English school and/or certified private tutor to provide English education to local Nicaraguans. Each circumstance is unique based on a student’s age and living situation. Their progress is monitored monthly to ensure the most comprehensive program is being provided to the student.
Runucate is currently awaiting 501 (c)(3) approval *
